Technical Electives

The bachelor of science in electrical engineering (BSEE) requires six (6) technical elective credits.  A list of approved courses is outlined below.

Biology

  • BIOL 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division biology course, excluding seminar, independent study, and internships.

Chemistry

  • CHEM 112: College Chemistry II
  • CHEM 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division chemistry course, excluding seminar, independent study, and internships.

Computer Science

  • CS 253: Introduction to Systems Programming
  • CS 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division computer science course, excluding seminar, independent study, and internships.

Electrical Engineering

  • Up to three (3) total credits of ECE 493 Internship, ECE 283/479 Undergraduate Research, ECE 496 Independent Study, and/or VIP 200/300/400 Vertically Integrated Project may be counted as technical electives for the BSEE.

Engineering Science

  • ENGR 2xx, 3xx, or 4xx: Select any engineering science course numbered 200 or higher, excluding ENGR 240,
    independent study, and internships.

Management

  • BUS 202: The Legal Environment of Business
  • BUS 301: Leadership Skills
  • BUS 410: Advanced Management Topics
  • BUS 441: Business in Society: Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability

Materials Science and Engineering

  • MSE 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division materials science course, excluding seminar, independent study, and internships.

Mathematics

  • MATH 187: Discrete and Foundational Mathematics I
  • MATH 189: Discrete Mathematics
  • MATH 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division mathematics course, excluding MATH 360, MATH 361, seminar, independent study, and internships.

Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering

  • ME 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division mechanical engineering course, excluding seminar, independent study, and internships.

Music

  • MUS 312: Introduction to Computer Music

Physics

  • PHYS 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division physics course, excluding PHYS 381, seminar, independent study, and internships.

Supply Chain Management

  • SCM 3xx or 4xx: Select any upper-division supply chain management course, excluding independent study and internships.

STEM Education (IDoTeach)

  • STEM-ED 350: Research Methods
  • STEM-ED 410: Project-Based Instruction

Vertically Integrated Projects

  • Up to three (3) total credits of ECE 493 Internship, ECE 283/479 Undergraduate Research, ECE 496 Independent Study, and/or VIP 200/300/400 Vertically Integrated Project may be counted as technical electives for the BSEE.
    as these courses cannot be used to satisfy ECE Electives.
