How to Apply

Apply Now for Fall 2024! 

Applications for Fall 2024 semester accepted through May 2024. Application review is ongoing. All students admitted to the PhD and Masters Programs are fully funded, either through Graduate Assistantship, External Fellowship, or Employer Sponsorship.

A prospective student may apply at any time and should follow the general graduate application procedure for degree-seeking students. Content on this page is provided as a quick reference for planning. All official course descriptions/degree requirements/admission standards/program learning outcomes/etc. are published on the Undergraduate/Graduate Catalog site Graduate Catalog site. Application Cycles:

Most students are admitted to the MSE graduate programs in the Fall semesters. For fall semester applications, we begin reviewing after January 15th. All applications submitted through May are considered for positions. We encourage all applicants to apply as early as possible to be considered for the most opportunities.

MSE Program Admission Requirements

Admission to the PhD and Masters (MS & MEngr) Programs is based on:

  1. All students must meet the minimum admission requirements of the graduate college. International applicants must satisfy the international application requirements.
  2.  An undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (based on a 4-point scale) computed for all undergraduate credits from the applicant’s most recent baccalaureate degree. Students with less than a 3.00 may be considered if they have graduate academic experience, or with strong background, research and letters of recommendation.
  3. Official transcripts from all colleges attended (unofficial transcripts may be submitted during review process from US-Domestic Institutions)
  4. A statement of purpose (no more than 2 pages) outlining educational and professional background, description of research interest, motivation, aptitudes, professional interests and career goals.
  5. A current CV or resume.
  6. TOEFL or IELTS scores (for international students).
  7. Three letters of recommendation.

The MSE Interdisciplinary Graduate program does not consider GRE scores when reviewing applications.
