This course is available for 6 NBCC CE hours per day and CPS credential hours. Registration available for one day or both days. No credit will be given for partial days.

THURSDAY

Trends in Youth Alcohol Use and Prevention Strategies (9 am – 10:30 am).  Leah Kalk, LPC, Director, RADAR Center. Participants will review Idaho trends in alcohol use and learn how to use the data for prevention planning.

Trends in Youth Vaping and Prevention Strategies (10:30 am – 12 pm). Dr. Regina Moro, LPC, Associate Professor, Department of Counselor Education, Legislative and Community Liaison, ISBHA. Participants will review Idaho trends in vaping and learn how to use the data for prevention planning.

How to Talk to Adolescents about Substance Use (1 pm – 4 pm).  Dr. Susan Esp, LCPC, Associate Professor, School of Social Work, Associate Director, ISBHA and Leah Kalk, LPC, Director, RADAR Center.  Participants will learn how to communicate with adolescents about substance use using motivational enhancement strategies with a focus on prevention.

FRIDAY

Suicide Prevention (9 am – 12 pm). Dr. Laura Gallo, LPC, Assistant Professor, Department of Counselor Education. Participants will review trends in suicide and learn prevention strategies. One hour of ethics training will also be provided focusing in suicide prevention for youth.

Ethics in Prevention (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm).  Dr. Regina Moro, LPC, Associate Professor, Department of Counselor Education, Legislative and Community Liaison, ISBHA. Participants will learn about ethical issues specific to prevention.
