Using live music with world class fingerstyle guitarist, Calum Graham, this workshop will help you better understand how to use music to help create healing. We will review research on the powerful effects of music on the brain and body including emotional regulation, social communication, entrainment, arousal, and physiological biomarkers. Disorders responsive to musical interventions will be examined such as mood disorders, autism spectrum, ADHD, memory conditions, brain injury, epilepsy, and severe mental disorders. Using music to activate peak performance strategies will also be discussed. In consultation with Dr. Minton and Mr. Graham, participants will have an opportunity to create a playlist of music to optimize functioning in themselves or their clients. Three dimensional recordings of the brain responding to music will be played along with the results of research on the types of music chosen by seventy biofeedback/neurofeedback clients. If feasible, a live demonstration will be given of the brain responding to various musical genres.

This workshop is unique because of the inclusion of live music from a virtuosic musician to teach and demonstrate the concepts covered. Participants will learn how to apply research findings to their clinical practice and/or their own life. Our goal is to make this workshop convey important research and practice information in a highly entertaining, meaningful, and memorable format.
