Master of Education in Educational Leadership

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership is a Frank Murray Leadership award-winning program designed for working educators pursuing a principal endorsement, and for education professionals with a passion to become confident leaders in a variety of school contexts.

Students in the program develop and deepen their leadership skills, learn frameworks and strategies to build positive school culture, and become leaders that advance student learning.

This degree leads to an Idaho principal endorsement for certified teachers with at least 2 previous years of full-time contracted PreK-12 teaching experience in a school setting.

Degree Requirements

Admission to the MEd Educational Leadership Program

Candidates are required to meet the following qualifications and provide the following application materials:
  • An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4-point scale, computed for all undergraduate credits from the applicant’s most recent bachelor’s degree.
  • Official transcripts. Please review the Graduate College instructions on how to submit your official transcripts.
  • Two letters of recommendation: one from an immediate supervisor in support of the candidate’s participation in the program and one from someone who can speak to the candidate’s leadership ability and/or potential.
  • A CV/resume
  • A one to two-page letter outlining your professional goals and explaining why you believe the Educational Leadership program is a strong fit for you.

Admission to a program cohort is based on the applicant’s current qualifications, perceived potential capabilities, and level of commitment.

Principal Endorsement Requirement

Applicants seeking the principal endorsement must have at least two years of full-time, contracted PreK-12 teaching experience in a school setting.

An interview may be required after review of application materials. Applicants must begin the process through the Boise State Graduate College:

Additional standards for international applicants:

Federal enrollment regulations do not permit the Educational Leadership program at Boise State to enroll international students on F-1 student visas. International applicants holding another U.S. visa type may still be eligible to enroll.
