In Memoriam: Former College of Education Dean Richard ‘Dick’ Hart

Richard “Dick” Hart, who served as dean for the College of Education from 1978-1993, passed away November 12. For those interested, a viewing will be held December 5, 2022 from 5-7pm at Bowman Funeral Home in Garden City and funeral services will take place Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 11am at Bowman Funeral Home in Garden City.

Lamont Lyons, professor emiritus and former associate dean for the College of Education remembers his colleague fondly. “Dick was a kind, gentle, generous, unassuming man and leader. He treated everyone openly and fairly. Without pretension he easily shared responsibilities with others and quietly added to the stature of the College of Education within the University and the community of school leaders in southwestern Idaho.”

“He always had a smile and and a positive attitude,” said former College of Education Dean Bob Barr. “He made friends wherever he went. He was a great, goodwill ambassador for the college.”

“He was kind, sensible, professional, and just an all-round decent guy,” said Holly Anderson, professor emiritus in the College of Education. “He represented us well in his role as dean and was a good role model.”
