[Julianne Mori, Elementary Education 2021 Top Ten Scholar]: I’m Julia Mori, I’m graduating with a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in math. So I came to Boise State because I’ve always wanted to come to Boise State. I’ve always known I wanted to be a Bronco. I grew up in Bruneau, Idaho, and so I was close to Boise, my mom went to Boise State and so I just always knew this is where I wanted to be.
So I started undergraduate research my freshman year. I extended a project from a class into a research project and I got to collaborate with some peers and faculty members. I’ve been able to present at national conferences – even an international conference – and so I’ve just been really able to explore my interests and learn that teaching is so much more broad than just what happens in the classroom. There are so many things that go into it and research is a part of teaching, and I’ve learned that here at Boise State.
When I found out I was a top 10 scholar I felt very excited and grateful. I knew that it would not have been possible without the people who supported me through the College of Ed. I’ve had so many amazing faculty mentors, peers who I’ve collaborated with in both research and who have supported me through my classes, that I just felt very grateful for the experience and everyone who’s helped me and supported me here at Boise State.
So, my student teaching experience has not been what I expected it to be, being in a pandemic, but I’ve learned so much. I’ve had the opportunity to teach virtual, face-to-face, hybrid, and with two amazing mentor teachers so I really learned the reality of what it looks like in a classroom. I’ve had tons of opportunities to be flexible and responsive to forever changing situations, which is exactly what I’ll be doing as a teacher, so it’s been a great experience. I’ve learned so much. Congratulations class of 2021. Thank you so much Boise State for all that you’ve given me and all the other students. Go Broncos!
