[ShaKayla Moran, Biology, IDoTeach 2021 Top Ten Scholar]: Hi, I’m ShaKayla Moran and my major is biology, with an emphasis in secondary education. It was probably like my sophomore year, and I loved biology, but I was like, “Something’s missing.” I just always felt like there was a piece that didn’t quite fit, and Matt Wigglesworth with IDoTeach actually came into one of my intro sciences courses and was like, “You should take step one,” to all of us. And I actually had a friend who was in the IDoTeach program, and then I really fell in love with it. To me being a Top Ten Scholar means that all the hard work that I’ve put in working towards my degree, student teaching, has been realized now, and it’s like a culminating celebration of all of the work of achieving my degree. Which really means a lot, especially being a first-gen student.
