Counselor Education professor conducts trauma training

Regina Moro

Regina Moro, associate professor in the Department of Counselor Education, conducted a training earlier this week for Center for Multicultural and Educational Opportunities (CMEO) staff on the impact of trauma.

The presentation “Trauma: Supporting Others and Ourselves,” explores the impact of trauma in two different ways. First, the presentation includes the impacts of trauma on students being served by CMEO programs and resources. Second, the presentation recognizes the impacts that working with traumatized individuals has on CMEO staff themselves. The training also explores the biological components of trauma, how trauma shows up for different kinds of people, post-traumatic growth, compassion fatigue and secondary trauma, as well as the necessity of self care for professional helpers.
