Boise State: Mountain West LoL Champions!

-Danny Appleford

Boise State Esports took on the University of Nevada, Reno last night in the Mountain West Conference League of Legends finals. Both teams worked hard to get to the conference and the games were nowhere near one-sided. The first game saw both teams use an aggressive composition with Boise State picking up the Lillia and Miss Fortune early. Nevada was quick to counter with bans on Rumble, Galio, and Malphite while securing Graves, Kayle, and Jhin.

Game one saw Boise State and Nevada neck-and-neck for most of the match with even dragon souls and towers. Unfortunately, Nevada swung the game in their favor after securing the first Baron and equally pushing into Boise State’s base. This forced Boise to surrender and put Nevada 1-0 in the series. Boise State would then have to reverse sweep to secure the win.

In game two, Boise State took a more reserved composition by securing the Ashe/Braum bot lane and Mordekaiser top lane. Nevada, however, showed no signs of slowing down with their second aggressive comp. They chose the Lucian mid lane early along with a Lillia and Miss Fortune. Boise State secured the first two dragons of the game, but lost three members during the fight. After being down in gold for most of the game, Boise State secured the Baron and eventually pushed Nevada back into their base. An eventual pick onto Nevada’s ADC led to a team ace and Boise State securing game two.

The final game in the Mountain West Conference saw both teams running back a similar composition from the game before, with changes to Boise State’s support and Nevada’s bot lane. Nevada’s early game saw them up by two dragon souls as well as two kills and seemingly had Boise State on the back foot. A fight by the Baron pit at the 13-minute mark showed Boise State pick up three kills and swung the game in their favor. One Baron and three dragon souls later, Boise State was up twelve-thousand gold and had double Nevada’s kills.

With back-to-back wins over the University of Nevada, Boise State Esports take home the title as the champions of the League of Legends Mountain West Conference.
