NECC Overwatch begins, teams look great

By Danny Appleford
Boise State University’s Orange team for Overwatch competed in the NECC Colligate League Thursday night against UC Davis and Johnson and Wales. The first match for the evening saw Boise State Orange facing off against Johnson and Wales. BSU Orange came into the match 0-1 overall in the standings.

Johnson and Wales were also 0-1 coming into the match which meant that both teams were looking to come away with their first win. BSU Orange came out swinging in the first map against Johnson and Wales but were unable to close out the first map. In the second map Boise State continued to hit back as hard as they could but to no avail. They went down two to nothing in the second map and would back to reverse sweep to win the series.

While BSU Orange was able to pull the game back somewhat by going up 2/3 during map three they were unable to close it out in overtime and fell to Johnson and Wales 3-0 in the series. They start out 0-2 in the NECC Colligate Overwatch League and will look to bounce back again soon.

Boise State Blue started the next game off strong by taking the win over UC Davis 2-0 in control. UC Davis came into this series 0-1 in the standings up against BSU Blue who was 1-0 in the standings. Map two was a King’s Row payload push which favored the composition that Boise State were aiming for.  With Boise State on the pushing side first, they were able to complete all three checkpoints with over four minutes left on the clock.

UC Davis were unable to fight back against BSU Blue and go down 2-0 in the series heading into potentially the final map. Boise State was able to hold strong on the second half of Havana to close out the series 3-0 over UC Davis. While Orange was not able to walk away with the win against Johnson and Wales, Blue was able to come out with the win and start the season 2-0 overall in the standings.
