Paint What You Know

By Frank Goitia

February 26 – April 5th, 2026

Student Union Fine Arts Gallery

Reception March 3rd, 4:30 – 6:30 pm

Frank Goitia draws artistic inspiration from the individuals and experiences of his life. Growing up at the Royal Hotel – just two blocks north of the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, where Boise City Hall stands today, downtown was his playground, with frequent visits to Julia Davis Park, Capitol Park (today Cecil D. Andrus Park), the Boise Depot, and the Ada Theater (today, the Egyptian Theater). After a professor told him to always “paint what you know,” his work has been dedicated to memorializing his Basque culture and the unique experience of growing up in a boarding house.

Creations Colors

By Elizabeth Orlovich

March 5 – May 10, 2026

Reception Thursday, April 2nd 4:30 – 6:30 pm

Student Union Trueblood Pop Up Gallery

In her artist statement, Elizabeth states, “These are just a few of my colorful art works that I’ve made throughout my life. I have a chronic invisible illness that causes me much pain. Much of my hope throughout those dark days came from wanting to see the glorious sunset. I also used my art as a coping mechanism to help draw my attention to the beauty that was still in life despite the hardships I was facing. Many artists cope with the pain by drawing attention to the hard parts of life, but that never comforted me. So I wanted to make my art a rebelling against the dark-themed art and draw attention to the good despite the bad still occurring, and allow goodness to have its place in the light.”
