International Faculty Language Consulting Program

Visit to Jump, Boise

The International Faculty Language Consulting Program (previously known as Faculty Tutoring) is a service for multilingual faculty members who need to increase the effectiveness of their English for scholarly purposes. English language consultants assist faculty members on a one-on-one basis in the following areas:

  • Write competitive proposals;
  • Increase effectiveness in the language used in research manuscripts to increase chances of publication;
  • Design strong oral and visual presentations for conference;
  • Design effective lab manuals, lectures, and other communication directed at students;
  • Design effective classroom or conference presentations;
  • Improve pronunciation in class lectures and labs.

How to Participate

Colleges and departments of the faculty members determine the allowable language consulting hours and provide funding for each participant.

The program coordinator will:

  • Arrange a qualified language consultant for each faculty member, according to need;
  • Introduce the language consultant to the faculty member and outline program guidelines and expectations;
  • Coordinate HR paperwork and payment process with department staff;
  • Approve time reporting for language consultants;
  • Collect and submit reports and progress/results to department chairs upon request;
  • Collect and distribute publications, grant funding, promotions, tenure appointments, etc., as a measure of effective methods.
