What is the benefit of participating in the Peace Corps Prep program?
Serving in the Peace Corps has become more and more competitive each year. Recent college graduates are competing for positions alongside seasoned professionals, making it important that they have the core competencies necessary for Peace Corps service. By participating in the Peace Corps Prep program the Peace Corps is certifying that you meet the basic core competencies. This certification will give you a competitive advantage, but it will not guarantee your automatic acceptance into the Peace Corps.

Can activities I have already completed be used to fulfill Peace Corps Prep requirements?
Yes, absolutely, as long as they have taken place during your academic career (including summers and breaks).

If I participate in the Peace Corps Prep do I have to apply for the Peace Corps?
No, however, most students who participate in the Peace Corps Prep program will most likely plan to apply to the Peace Corps, but it is okay if you change your mind about wanting to join the Peace Corps. Also, people of all ages join the Peace Corps, you may feel applying immediately after college is not the best option for you, in which case, you will have your certification for application at a later point in your life.
If I participate in Peace Corps Prep am I automatically accepted into the Peace Corps?
No, successful completion of the Peace Corps Prep program does not guarantee your acceptance into the Peace Corps.

Peace Corps Volunteers come from all kinds of backgrounds. They’re just out of college, mid-career, or retired. How much does the Peace Corps cost?
Nothing! Peace Corps provides each Volunteer with a housing and living stipend that enables them to live in a manner similar to the people in their community of service. The Peace Corps covers the cost of transportation to and from the country of service. Unlike other international volunteer programs, there is no charge to participate in the Peace Corps. There is no application fee, although costs may only be partially covered for the required medical examinations during the application process.
What if I have student loans that I need to repay after I graduate?
Many student loans are eligible for deferment by your lender while you serve in the Peace Corps. Perkins loans may be eligible for partial cancellation by your lender.
How long do you serve in the Peace Corps?
Two years, plus three months of training.
Who can become a Peace Corps Volunteer?
U.S. citizens at least 18 years old.
