Caregiver Summit Offered for North Idaho Residents

Family caregivers are an essential part of Idaho’s health care system, providing uncompensated, often complex, care and support to thousands of disabled and ill family members across their lifespans. Various perspectives are necessary as we work to identify synergies and solutions for family caregiver support.

Caregivers, community leaders, representatives from public, nonprofit and private programs, and other community members can explore creating networks of support for caregivers at the “Caregiving in Idaho — Lifespan Respite” summit.

The summit will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Quality Inn in Clarkston, Washington. Register at http://www.arch.memberlodge.org/event-1919522. A pre-summit gathering is from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, also at the Quality Inn. Register for that event athttp://www.arch.memberlodge.org/event-1947308.

With 2015’s passage of House Concurrent Resolution 24, Idaho’s legislators recognized the unique contribution made by caregivers. The resolution calls for the creation of a Caregiver Workgroup to produce a report identifying resources available to Idaho’s caregivers and innovative solutions to identified issues.

Results of the summit will guide the work of the Caregiver Workgroup. The summit is free and a light breakfast and full lunch will be provided. Join us for this exciting opportunity to enhance community-based supports for family caregivers.

The summit is hosted by the Idaho Caregiver Alliance (ICA) – a consortium of state, regional and local governmental, private and nonprofit organizations and individuals working together to improve community-based supports for family caregivers. The ICA is coordinated by the Idaho Commission on Aging in partnership with the Center for the Study of Aging at Boise State University.
