College of Arts and Sciences
The Arts and Sciences Living Learning Community (COAS) is a program for students living on campus with majors in the College of Arts and Sciences. First-year students live among faculty and returning student mentors, participate in a weekly class and related activities, and make connections to their department, the college, the university, and the Boise community as they pursue an undergraduate degree.
Why Should You Apply
COAS is a community for students with diverse interests seeking social connections, real-world experiences, and academic success. Students learn how arts and humanities blend with the social and hard sciences to collectively contribute to the human experience.
Community Events
The Fall COAS Retreat and Spring LLP Awards Banquet bookend the year, with optional community events including glassblowing lessons, informal debates on current events, wellness outings, hosted meetings with local artists and scientists and guided tours with community partners.
Curriculum
COAS classes help students develop a sense of belonging, understand degrees and majors in arts and sciences, make meaningful connections with faculty, work in collaborative teams with professional norms, and experience the value of living with diversity.

Rebecca Robideaux

Rebecca began her teaching career as a graduate student at Washington State University. Born and raised in northern Idaho, Rebecca enjoys skiing, golf, and anything on the lake.

Dr. Rulon Wood
Faculty-in-Residence, Faculty in the Department of Communication and Media
Dr. Rulon “Ru” Wood is an educator and filmmaker who loves the outdoors. He began his educational career at Utah State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Literature. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Ru worked as a film researcher on several network television programs that aired on the CBS network. Believe it or not, he actually spent three years getting paid to investigate alien abductions. No kidding.
He then began graduate studies at Utah State University where he completed a Master’s degree in English, with an emphasis in writing, and an Ed.S. degree in instructional technology, with an emphasis in interactive multimedia/learning technologies. During his studies at Utah State, Ru was selected as the outstanding scholar (Ed.S.) in Instructional Technology (1999). Ru continued his education with an M.F.A. degree in film studies and production at the University of Utah (2003). And in 2011, he completed a Ph.D. in the Department of Communication at the University of Utah.
Since joining the faculty at Boise State, he has worked with various student groups, including the Film Club and student-run film festival. As a life-long learner, Ru is committed to being an engaged member of the COAS LLC, and is excited to be serving as a Faculty-in-Residence after 3 semesters as the Faculty-out-of-Residence.

Dr. Daniel Luna
Faculty-out-of-Residence, Assistant Clinical Faculty in the Department of Geosciences
Dr. Luna studied biology and religion as an undergraduate at Duke University, and he went on to earn his PhD in Earth Science at UC Santa Barbara, where his research focused on paleontology. During his graduate studies, Dr. Luna described new species of fossil mammals from South America, joined field expeditions in Madagascar and Chile, and worked extensively at natural history museums in New York and Argentina, while also developing a strong passion for teaching. Dr. Luna joined the Department of Geosciences at Boise State in 2019 to develop and teach courses related to geology, paleontology, and evolution, and he also serves as the department’s community outreach coordinator. Dr. Luna knows that an interdisciplinary education can provide vital and enriching perspectives, skills, and opportunities, and he is especially excited to support the COAS LLC students as they embark upon their own intellectual and professional paths.
