Roommate Matching
Choosing your roommate is a big deal, and that’s why we use Roommate Matching to help you in that process! Roommate Matching allows you to create your roommate profile and search for matches based on academic major, lifestyle preferences, mutual friends, hobbies, and interests. The result? You’ll have a list of compatible roommates, and you’ll all be more prepared to work through your differences.
How it works
When Roommate Matching is available, you will receive an email to your Boise State account with the link to your Housing Portal.
- If your profile is complete, you can start looking for roommates! You can find your roommate by:
- Searching for a specific individual by their Boise State email address.
- Looking at our recommendations based on what you listed in your community preferences and profile.
- Browsing through other students’ profiles.
- Found someone who is a good fit for next year? Send them a message and say hello!Â
- Once you have found your roommate, you can send them a request. Make sure you and your roommate communicate about your housing preferences. Most importantly, which halls do you prefer(always have a backup)? Who wants which room? What are you bringing? Discuss these and any other questions you may have.
Didn’t match with anyone during roommate matching? Don’t worry! Go ahead and complete your roommate profile anyway. When the time comes for you to select your room, it will be a great way for other students in the room/suite you picked to start to get to know you.
FAQ
Why can’t I find the person I want to room with?
Make sure you’re both listed as the same gender. Email our office if you have further questions.
Why can’t I see their profile after I send a request?
You won’t see their profile until they accept or decline. But don’t worry—you can still message them!
Can I match with more than one roommate?
Right now, roommate groups are just for two people. We’ll let you know if that changes.
Can I swap rooms with someone?
Yes—if you’re a sophomore or above, it opens Monday, May 12. First-years can start swapping on Tuesday, July 15.
