RA and CA Position Descriptions

Required Qualifications and Time Commitments

RAs and CAs are expected to complete 19 hours of work per week
RAs and CAs must be enrolled as a full-time student at Boise State University with a minimum of 12 credits (undergraduate student) or 6 credits (graduate student) taken on a semester basis throughout employment
RAs and CAs must have a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5
RAs and CAs must have completed at least one academic semester at Boise State University prior to employment to be eligible for the position
RAs and CAs must be in good conduct and financial standing with Housing and Residence Life and Boise State University
RAs and CAs must be able to serve in the role for one academic year including break periods (August 9, 2026 – May 14, 2027)
RAs and CAs must be able to attend all training sessions throughout the academic year including Fall Training (August 9-23, 2026) and Winter Training (January 7-8, 2027)
RAs and CAs must be available on Wednesdays from 9:00 PM – 10:30 PM for weekly staff meetings
CAs must also be available on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM – 7:45 PM for Living Learning Program commitments
RAs and CAs must be present in their communities for an average of 2 hours per workday (weekdays between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

Resident Assistants get to build community in their assigned residential community, and have the opportunity to make each resident feel at home and like they belong at Boise State University. Resident Assistants help work to connect and build relationships with residents, support residents in being successful at Boise State University, assist in maintaining the safety and well-being of our communities, plan programs and educational events for residents, and get to work and collaborate with a team of peers!

Community Assistants are placed within each of Housing and Residence Life’s seven unique Living Learning Communities within the Living Learning Program. Each Living Learning Community is centered around a certain theme and topical area, where residents live in community with a Faculty member and each other. Additionally, LLC residents are enrolled in a 1-credit LLC class together that meets weekly, where students dive deeper into their LLC’s topical area and theme. LLP students also engage in weekly community programming that seeks to connect learning inside and outside the classroom. Community Assistants plan LLC and LLP programming, assist with planning for and facilitating the 1-credit LLC class, as well as fulfill the LLP’s academic and student support model and overarching LLP educational goals.
