Fall & Winter Break FAQ

If you are choosing to stay on campus, please read through our break information to be prepared for your stay with us.

Fall Break Dates: Sunday, November 19 – Saturday, November 25.

Winter Break Dates: Saturday, December 16 – Friday, January 5.

Staying For Winter Break

Will I lose door access during Winter Break?

Door Access does not change over break – residents may come and go to their assigned spaces throughout break.

Dining Services and Meals

Starting December 16 – January 5, dining services hours will be adjusted, visit Boise State Dining Services for hours of operation, locations, menus, and updates.

December 16 – January 6 On-campus dining will be closed until the Spring term begins on January 8.

The Campus Food Pantry is a place for ALL students who need access to food and hygiene products. Simply bring your student ID number to the Campus School and they will assist you in selecting whatever it is you need. There will also be limited hours for the breaks.

Will there by on-call support?

Our Resident Assistants (RAs) are on-call 24/7 to respond to incidents on campus. On-call RAs phone numbers are specific to each community. Connect with your RA or Resident Director to get that information.

For emergencies call Campus security at, (208) 426-6911 or 911.

Are front desks going to remain open?

During the Winter Break only the following desks will be open:

DKMT, SSQ, and HCSH front desks will be open daily 9 am – 5 pm.

The desks will be closed on December 25th and January 1st.

Normal hours will resume on January 8.

Can I still receive mail and packages?

During the Winter Break, packages will be handled at the following front desks: DKMT, SSQ, and HCSH.

Chaffee & DKMT residents will pick up their mail at the Keiser front desk.

Towers, Apartments, and SSQ residents will pick up their mail at the Clearwater front desk.

Lincoln Townhomes and HCSH residents will pick up their mail at the Sawtooth front desk.

24 Hours Quiet Hours

Starting on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 12:00 a.m.

  • Please show consideration for those around you by keeping the noise level to a minimum.
  • 24 hour courtesy hours are in effect at all times.

Leaving For Winter Break

What do I need to do before I go?

If you are planning on leaving for Winter Break, December 16 – January 5, for any significant time. The following precautions must be taken to ensure the safety and security of our buildings.

  • Empty your fridge and throw away all perishables
  • Take out your trash
  • Make sure your refrigerator is plugged in and closed all the way
  • Close your windows
  • Set your room temperature to 72* or medium heat
  • Lock your door

Will there be room checks during Winter break?

Residence Life staff will be entering all residential spaces on December 16 to ensure that health and safety standards are met and that our buildings are prepared for winter weather over the break.

Our staff will be checking on the following safety measures:

  • All trash is removed
  • Refrigerator is plugged in and closed all the way
  • Close your windows
  • Set your room temperature to 72* or medium heat

Community Standards and Student Code of Conduct

If Residence Life staff comes across violations of the Student Code of Conduct or Community Standards while completing health and safety checks it may result in an administrative hearing with the Dean of Students or Residence Life staff.  You will be contacted via your Boise State email if you are documented for any alleged violations.

I’ve decided to move out. What do I need to do?

  • Review the “leaving after occupancy” information on the Cancel Application page. 
  • Notify your Resident Assistant or Resident Director of your plans. 
  • Schedule a move out appointment at your community’s front desk.

How do I properly move out of my fall assignment if I won’t be back in the spring?

Remember, your license agreement is for the entire year, and residents are obligated to that agreement unless you have been granted a release due to a “qualifying event”. If you are leaving at the end of the semester, we will be using an appointment slot process through your community’s front desk to check out. 

Staying For Fall Break

Fall Dining Service and Meals

Starting November 17-26, dining services hours will be adjusted, visit Boise State Dining Services for hours of operation, locations, menus, and updates.

November 17 – 26 Buster’s Kitchen will be closed.  

The on Campus Food Pantry is a place for ALL students who need access to food and hygiene products. Simply bring your student ID number to the Campus School and they will assist you in selecting whatever it is you need. There will also be limited hours for the breaks.

Free Thanksgiving Meal Kit can be requested through the Thanksgiving Meal Kit Request Form.

Individuals will pick up meal kits on Friday, November 20 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Mail and packages delivered will not be affected during Fall Break and will remain at the front desks.

Leaving For Fall Break

What do I need to do before I go?

If you are only departing for Fall Break, Nov. 20-26 don’t forget to take the following precautions:

  • Take out your trash
  • The refrigerator is plugged in and closed all the way
  • Close your windows
  • Set your room temperature to 72* or medium heat
  • Lock your door

Will there be room checks during Fall break?

Residence Life staff will not be entering rooms during Fall Break unless necessary.

Returning After Fall Break

What do I need to do if I am coming back to campus after leaving for fall break?

There’s nothing you need to do when returning back to campus.
