The Classroom Technology Administrator 3 will be responsible for designing, programming and supporting audio-visual and control technology that allows faculty to seamlessly conduct classes at the University. The Classroom Technology Administrator will analyze, model, design, simulate, install and maintain classrooms systems and applications to include audio-visual projection, classroom recordings, communication networks, data links, classroom networking and classroom architectural design.
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent. Prefer degree concentration in: Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or Computer Science.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of multimedia A-V and control equipment and systems; projectors, microphones, speakers, cameras, codecs, bridging equipment and their interconnection over TCP/IP.
- Expert knowledge of Windows & Macintosh desktop computers, including but not limited to maintenance, imaging, updates, diagnostics, troubleshooting, advanced configuration & application software.
- Skilled in interpersonal relationships, teaching, planning and communication.
- Substantial knowledge of microprocessor hardware including processors, board components and peripherals.
- Experience in developing and delivering training in multimedia hardware and application software systems.
- Successful record of taking projects from concept to completion.
- Training in Information Technology concepts, including ITSM & Helpdesk workflow and ticketing systems.
60% of Time the Classroom Technology Administrator 3 must:
- Responsible for the architecture, design, installation and maintenance of an enterprise multimedia service to the University. Research, review and evaluate multimedia hardware, software and peripherals.
- Works with Learning Technologies Solutions and Customer Care of OIT to examine and integrate new technologies in teaching environments as a ubiquitous and utilitarian service to OIT supported General Purpose Classrooms.
- Responsible for advanced programming of new rooms, existing rooms to accommodate new equipment and to benchmark new equipment and determine how to optimally program it to allow us to fully leverage the new technology.
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance and upgrades of enterprise multimedia services to the University that meets standardized design documents.
- Mentor CTA level 1 and 2 employees as appropriate to help them gain the skills required for their own career progression.
- Communicate complex technical information at a client’s level of understanding.
- Assist departments and individual instructors/staff with multimedia issues. Visit potential sites for new conference & classrooms. Discuss technology options with potential customers and work with them to find the best fit for their needs.
- Support business processes of classroom & conference room multimedia installations, maintenance, repair and replacements. Maintain current inventory of installed and newly acquired equipment. Order new equipment when customers commit to new jobs.
- Maintain current professional certification at the industry standard level or at the University level of deployment, whichever is more appropriate to fully support the enterprise multimedia system.
- This position must keep current with the dynamic nature of multimedia applications, equipment and techniques.
- Maintain working relationships within OIT, the campus community and with outside vendors.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
General Office – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. General office work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Assist in the installation of multimedia equipment; use of tall ladders, lifting and holding up to 40 pounds of equipment, the movement of up to 40 pounds of equipment above the shoulders. (Infrequent: activity exists less than 1% of the time).
May be required to travel with overnight stays.
Additional training/education or equivalent experience, as well as business need, are required for movement into higher level jobs.
