Purpose

Responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the Boise State Children’s Center in order to promote exceptional and inclusive educational practices for young children and families, support the work of teachers and staff, and manage the business needs of the organization.

Level Scope

Oversees through subordinate Managers a large, complex organization with multiple functional disciplines/occupations, OR manages a program, regardless of size, that has critical impact upon the campus. Significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and programs, manages significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. Frequently influences business decisions made by senior leadership. Oversees through subordinate Managers the accountability and stewardship of campus resources and the development of systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Negotiates and influences others to understand and accept new concepts, practices and approaches.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field.

Current Boise City Child Care License, First Aid, and CPR Certification (or ability to obtain before position start date).

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60 % of Time Director, Children’s Center will:

  • Provide strategic direction to the Children’s Center that is based on a clear theoretical framework grounded in best practices for all learners and that aligns with the vision and mission of the Boise State College of Education
  • Clearly communicate the philosophy of the Children’s Center to families and staff
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among teachers, families and center administration
  • Administer annual surveys to assess family satisfaction
  • Track annual data to assess retention and each individual child’s development
  • Develop and train staff in emergency procedures
  • Maintain Center policy and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing and accreditation standards and requirements including NAEYC; lead the NAEYC accreditation review process
  • Recruit, hire and retain personnel who fit with the vision and mission of the Center and the university
  • Design and implement a System of support and supervision for each teacher and teaching team that utilizes an evidence-based coaching model to affirm program values and promote shared vision
  • Facilitate a community of learning and development that promotes ongoing observation, feedback, and self-reflection of teaching practices
  • Support a system for orientation and growth-oriented support to teach candidates completion fieldwork aa the Center, including supporting teachers to effectively support teacher candidates
  • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities that support teacher growth and learning.
  • Plan, organize and direct budgetary administrative services including human resources, payroll, processing and purchasing
  • Develop an annual budget and maintain a 5 year operating plan in accordance with university plans.
  • Support and engage philanthropy and fundraising efforts
  • Successful experience with fundraising, grant research and writing

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection
