Purpose

The Sports Performance, Football, Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing staff who provide all health care needs of student-athletes pertaining to the football program.

Level Scope

Manages a large team typically consisting of both experienced professionals and subordinate Managers. Focuses on tactical and operational plans with short to mid-term focus; significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate Managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead project or program teams in one department/job family. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines campus strategies for a program with campus wide impact.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and 5 years experience with 1 years managerial experience
  • Certification by the NATABOC & must meet standards for State of Idaho Licensure
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications (completed within first month of hire)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of the NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
  • Ability to perform adequate and competent evaluations in regard to health status of student-athletes.
  •  Knowledge of injury prevention and rehabilitation as they pertain to common injuries in the sport of football.
  • Ability to manage a team of multiple staff members and students in a fast-paced work environment.
  • High level of communication skills and ability to coordinate  members of the Sports Performance, Health and Wellness team.
  • Management and leadership skills.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Sports Performance Football, Assistant Director must:

  • Oversee one or multiple areas within the Sports Performance, Health and Wellness Department including Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Mental Health, and Nutrition for designated sports at Boise State University.
  • Complete all duties necessary as the athletic trainer for football, including but not limited to injury prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies for chronic/high profile injuries and illness for student-athletes.
  • Oversee relationships with campus and community stakeholders including the Idaho Sports Medicine Institute.
  • Manages clinical programming & relationships with campus athletic training certified education programs.
  • Help develop and administer policy for outside providers and Sports Performance, Health and Wellness programs.
  • Oversee and enhance facility operations and improvements in football training facilities.
  • Oversee and enhance appropriate staffing in order to provide quality health care for Boise State University football student-athletes.
  • Coordinate and maintain relationships with outside vendors to provide quality products and equipment that may affect all student-athletes at Boise State University.
  • Develop yearly budget requests for one or multiple areas within the Sports Performance, Health and Wellness Department.
  • Coordinate implementation of department wide policy in conjunction with department administration and the NCAA.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts for the Sports Performance, Health & Wellness program.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and requiring wearing hearing protection.
