Purpose

Manage the staff and activities associated with the Education component to better understand current needs and to leverage other opportunities to be utilized for the department. Manage communication and feedback for programmatic sustainability and grow the structure for project management. Work with cross division leads in decision-making, policy development, planning, outreach, problem-solving, and project management with campus training and continuous improvements related to the interactivity of faculty and research administration.

Level Scope

Oversees through subordinate Managers a large, complex organization with multiple functional disciplines/occupations, OR manages a program, regardless of size, that has critical impact upon the campus. Significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and programs, manages significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. Frequently influences business decisions made by senior leadership. Oversees through subordinate Managers the accountability and stewardship of campus resources and the development of systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Negotiates and influences others to understand and accept new concepts, practices and approaches.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent plus 8 years of experience including 5 years managerial experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of state, federal, and standard non/for-profit regulatory compliance requirements related to research administration.
  • Knowledge of professional development and continuous improvement best practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze problems and recommend solutions.
  • Strong leadership skills between and among a diverse group across campus.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Training and Education Program, Director must:

  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to: identify and inform on specific training needs.
  • Establish a series of education workshops, seminar series, speaker series, and forums in support of the research enterprise
  • Continually assess the regulatory environment to address the changing needs and the effectiveness of the training offerings, including development and execution of appropriate internal control metrics.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and implementation assistance on research policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations governing research, to address the needs of the university’s rapidly changing scientific environment.
  • Provide ongoing review and analysis of current research processes and procedures to identify gaps and inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize service delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, on all aspects of projects, including planning, content, layout and publication of marketing materials, turnaround time, etc.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and requiring wearing hearing protection.
