Purpose

To provide academic support to students

Level Scope

Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet the needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have had a passing grade in, and good understanding of the area tutoring

Possess skills at higher level than Tutor 1

BA or equivalent experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to listen to and understand information and directions presented through written and spoken words
  • Ability to communicate information in writing and speaking so others will understand
  • Strong ability to teach others how to do something
  • Ability to translate or explain what information means and how it can be used
  • High level of knowledge of the content area

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Tutor 2 must:

  • Provide supplemental instruction and guided practice to students individually or in small groups
  • Provide instructions which will help students complete assignments, labs or other tasks assigned by instructor/teacher
  • Some responsibility for monitoring labs and student behavior
  • Provide content knowledge/skills in college level courses

35% of Time the Tutor 2

Determined by department needs

5% of Time the Tutor 2

Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection
