How to Make a Conditional Verbal Offer

Congratulations! Now that you have selected your final candidate, let’s check some information and extend the conditional offer!

Best Practice and Tips

Confirm the Offer Details

Review the target salary and start date with your department and HR Talent Acquisition Specialist. If applicable, confirm if you will be offering start-up funds, and credit towards tenure.

Be Enthusiastic

When you call, tell the candidate why they were selected and show your appreciation and excitement for their background, skills and knowledge.

Review the Employee Benefits Package

Be ready to explain the base salary. Provide an overview of other benefits and perks to working on campus.  Connect them with the Benefits team for more info: benefits@boisestate.edu, 426-4429.

Make the Call

Extend the contingent verbal offer! At this point, you can address any additional questions your selected candidate may have. They will receive a notification with the next steps regarding the background check.

Get the Commitment

Don’t panic if your candidate asks for time to consider. Reassure them that any employment opportunity is a big deal and needs consideration. Ask if your candidate needs clarification with the offer and establish a timely date for their decision. Offer any resources they may need to help make their decision.
