Purpose

This position has high level responsibility and oversight of multiple facilities and project construction, including maintenance, trades, custodial, and grounds for a division or college building(s).  Serves as lead for capital project management and related projects. Manages facility services, custodial services, safety and security programs.

Level Scope

Manages a large team typically consisting of both experienced professionals and subordinate Managers. Focuses on tactical and operational plans with short to mid term focus; significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate Managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead a project or program teams in one dept/job family. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines campus strategies for a program with campus wide impact.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 7 years relevant experience including 3 years managerial experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of group dynamics, conflict resolution skills necessary for training, problem solving, etc.
  • Knowledge of accounting and finance necessary to develop and interpret department reports.
  • Experience in managing budgets, estimating project or equipment costs.
  • Ability to manage large multi-use facilities or housing spaces.
  • Experience supervising, hiring, training, scheduling, progressive discipline, and evaluating multiple staff and/or teams of staff
  • Knowledge of facilities maintenance and custodial needs and services
  • Comprehensive knowledge in planning, scheduling, supervision of a large facilities management organization.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Facility Operations Assistant Director

  • Develops, negotiates and manages multiple facility use partnerships and MOUs with both on and off campus entities.
  • Provide for the continuous and reliable operation of division facilities and equipment.
  • Negotiates and manages facility service agreements including custodial, landscaping, and post event cleaning contracts, as well as, routine maintenance agreements. 
  • Develops facility operations manuals, & policies and procedures. 
  • Oversees risk management and safety programs. 
  • Oversees the department’s continuity plan.
  • Assist in overseeing new construction and remodel projects for all athletic department facilities.  
  • Ensures compliance with all safety and security standards in the workplace. 
  • Oversees all maintenance and repair activities for division facilities including mechanical and HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and all artificial turf systems.
  • Oversees work request process for all scheduled, unscheduled maintenance, annual DBS, life safety inspections, etc.
  • Ensure that all requests for services are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

 Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection.
