Economics MEC MS

  1. Quantitative Reasoning Skills: At the completion of the program, students are expected to:
    a) understand how to use empirical evidence to evaluate the validity of an economic argument,
    b) use econometric methodology, interpret results of econometric models and conduct appropriate statistical analysis of data to answer a research question,
    c) solve economic models mathematically and provide intuitive explanations of the results.
  2. Specialized Knowledge and Application of Skills: At the completion of the program, students are expected to:
    a) develop a sophisticated understanding of the theoretical, analytical, and methodological approaches used within the discipline of microeconomics and related fields,
    b) carry out economic and policy analyses that draw on microeconomic theory,
    c) apply economic analysis to everyday problems in real world situations, to understand current events and evaluate specific policy proposals.
  3. Research Skills: At the completion of the program, students are expected to:
    a) formulate researchable economics questions in an independent manner,
    b) develop research projects and contribute to research activities of a team,
    c) locate and evaluate relevant sources for a research project in a critical manner,
    d) develop research projects through which they are able to use complex statistical techniques to analyze a wide-range of outcomes,
    e) be committed to the ethical conduct of research and professional activities.
  4. Communication Skills: At the completion of the program, students are expected to:
    a) communicate effectively in written, oral and graphical form about specific issues and to formulate well-organized written arguments that state assumptions and hypotheses supported by evidence,
    b) disseminate research results in a clear and coherent manner to other researchers, employers, coworkers, and to the general public,
    c) contribute to the intellectual community and be able to critically analyze and evaluate one’s own, as well as others’ findings and give effective and constructive feedback to others.
