English Teaching BA

  1. Understand that learning the English Language Arts is a social practice that learners use to form and inform identities and to participate in multiple contexts and communities. (INTASC 1,2,3; NCTE 5)
  2. Understand learners’ strengths, resources, social and cultural backgrounds, and interests as a way to build inclusive and participatory communities. (INTASC 1,2,3; NCTE 5)
  3. Inquire into disciplinary expertise in order to understand how they and others engage in the English Language Arts to make meaning, to participate in communities, and to understand themselves, others, and their worlds. (INTASC 4; NCTE 1,2)
  4. Create, adapt, and revise ELA curriculum, instruction, and assessment that responds to and empowers learners within a dialogic community where young people engage, individually and collectively, in ELA processes and make choices about their learning. (INTASC 5, 6,7,8; NCTE 3,4)
  5. Develop a vision of professional practice that guides the building of inclusive learning communities in the classroom and with colleagues, and that guides inquiry into learners, the English Language Arts, pedagogical choices, and the contexts in which they occur. (INTASC 9, 10; NCTE 6,7)

 

Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication BA

  1. Communicate effectively in a range of genres for diverse audiences.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency with the craft and processes of writing.
  3. Articulate the rhetorical choices in portfolio documents using references to key theories and principles of writing, rhetoric, and technical communication
  4. Engage in inquiry into the field, including conducting primary research.
