Important Update
The Institute for Inclusive and Transformative Scholarship (IFITS) is now the Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Institute (URM Institute). The new name reflects our long-standing focus on mentored undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity and our history of working towards creating the conditions on campus for more
people to do more research that makes a difference. You may still see “IFITS” in some places as we update our materials.
Mission
The URM Institute helps students and mentors learn together through authentic research, scholarship, and creative activity.
We do this by broadening opportunities for mentored undergraduate research and creative activity, supporting mentors and teams, and coordinating the campus-wide ecosystem of URSCA experiences.
Our role
As the backbone for Boise State’s URSCA ecosystem, the URM Institute:
- Connects students with mentored project teams in many forms, including research labs, creative and performing arts projects, innovation and entrepreneurship teams, practitioner inquiry, and community-engaged scholarship.
- Supports mentors and faculty / staff leaders through programs such as ASSERT and other resources that help them design effective, sustainable mentoring practices.
- Aligns and amplifies campus efforts by working with colleges, departments, and partners so that undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity are easier to find, join, and sustain.
Vision
Our vision is a campus where:
- Every undergraduate who wants mentored research or creative experiences can find a clear way into one
- Mentors and teams have the structures and support they need to welcome students into meaningful scholarly work
- Undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity are recognized as a normal part of how Boise State learns with and from the world
