The Albertsons Library MakerLab offers access to emerging technologies to all Boise State students, staff, and faculty – regardless of previous experience.

3D Printers & Scanners

Lulzbot TAZ 6

Fusion Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printer with either a SE 0.5mm or Aerostruder extruder and heated build plate. Free to use for Boise State students, faculty, and staff. Filament is provided!

Prusa i3 mk3s

FDM 3D printer that allows you to print with 1.75 mm filament and with more detail than the Lulzbot printers. Free to use for Boise State students, faculty, and staff. Filament is provided!

  • Build Plate Dimensions: 250 mm x 210 mm x 210 mm
  • Printable Materials: PLA and NinjaFlex

FormLabs Form 2

Stereolithography (SLA) 3D resin printer that is able to produce extremely fine-detail prints with a nearly imperceptible layer height. This piece of equipment is only available for research and class project use. Please contact MakerLab staff at makerlab@boisestate.edu to learn more about using the FormLabs Printers.

  • Build Plate Dimensions: 145 × 145 × 175 mm

Fuel 3D Scanner

A scanner that assists in the creation of 3D models. Best for smaller objects.

Microcomputers & Electronics

Makey Makey

An invention kit designed to connect everyday objects to computer keys. Uses a circuit board, alligator clips, and a USB cable to create closed-loop electrical signals. Great for beginners who want to start exploring closed-circuit electronics.

Raspberry Pi

A credit card–sized microcomputer used to learn coding or to build electronics projects. Used with Python or, less commonly, C/C++.

Raspberry Pi kits may be available for check out at the first-floor circulation desk.

Arduino

A microcontroller used to learn coding or to build electronics projects. Uses C/C++.

Arduino kits may be available for check out at the first-floor circulation desk.

Matrix Creator

Internet of Things (IOT) programmable microcomputer with built-in sensors. Supports Linux operating systems.

Switches, sensors, resistors, wires, motors, and more! Check out our full list of circuitry components here.

Multimeter

Used to test and measure electrical voltage, current, and resistance. Great for troubleshooting circuitry or electronics projects.

Axidraw

This is a robot that can draw any vector design. We can teach you how to transform any image into a robot drawn piece of art.

Engraving & Cutting Tools

Nomad Carbide Desktop CNC

A computer numerical controlled (CNC) desktop milling machine that uses rotary cutters to remove material for a workpiece. This machine can be used to cut or engrave wood, plastics, and metals. Learn more about this machine. Practice materials are available in the lab.

Epilog Zing 24

A computer-controlled laser cutter that uses a 60-watt laser and mirrors to cut, engrave, or mark a wide range of materials, such as cardstock, wood, fabric, and acrylic. Capable of producing detailed engravings and has a rotary attachment for engraving bottles, mugs, and tumblers.

If you have questions about what materials you can use check out this Laserable Materials list. All materials brought into the lab must be approved by a supervisor before being used in the machine. Practice materials are available in the lab.

Silhouette Cameo

Computer-controlled machines that use rollers and dies to cut cardstock, vinyl, heat transfer material, sticker paper, fabric, and more. Great for making stickers, stencils, and iron-ons! We offer free cardstock and vinyl to users.

Textile Tools

Brother Sewing Machines

Computerized sewing machine with tons of built-in stitches and basic embroidery functions. Users will need to bring in their own fabric for their project, however, we can supply thread and practice fabric to test out their stitches.

Clothes Iron

Basic clothes iron that can be used to press fabrics or to fuse iron-on patches.

Button Maker

Our button maker is for 1.75” buttons. Practice materials are available, however, if wanting to make a large number of buttons you will need to bring in your own materials from American Button Machines.

Thermoforming & Heat Tools

Makyu Vacuum Former

Vacuum thermoforming machine used to create plastic molds of 3D objects. You can make casts for concrete to make planters or molds to make chocolates or other food items. We offer cast and mold sheets for free to users.

Heated Touch-Up Tool

A heated tool used to remelt plastic in order to smooth, retouch, and refine 3D printed projects. Features variable heat settings and multiple attachments.

Soldering Iron

Soldering irons can be used to connect wires, add parts to circuits, or fusing stained glass projects. We have everything needed to safely solder, including eye protection, heat-resistant gloves, fan, solder suckers and wicks (removes old solder), wires, and more.

Including tweezers/forceps, pliers, snippers, flathead screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, ratchet set, wrenches, hammer, shuckers, hex keys, bench vise, digital calipers, measuring tape, and rulers.

Audio & Visual

Novation Launchpad Mini

a musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) grid controller that gives you everything you need to make music or program live sounds.

Oculus Quest

The Oculus Quest is a virtual reality (VR) headset. You can take tours of museums, build worlds, or play games.
