Boise State Music is proud to announce that Mike Samball, Boise Jazz Society Executive Director and Professor Emeritus has been awarded a 2022 Jazz Hero Award from the Jazz Journalists Association.
For more than 40 years, Samball taught in the Boise State Department of Music and shared his deep knowledge and passion for jazz with both Boise State students and the local community. Through organizations like the Boise State Invitational Jazz Festival, Boise Jazz Society, and the Gene Harris Jazz Festival, Samball has brought awareness and world-renowned talent to Boise. His years of dedication and his continued efforts to highlight the art of jazz have truly helped foster a passionate and dedicated community that’s going strong — and growing.
