Dr. Lori Gray

• To prepare knowledgeable, adaptable, motivated, and engaging music teachers. I will do so by shaping the Music Education curricula for relevance, modeling strong pedagogy and professional teacher dispositions, engaging colleagues in dialogues related to Music Education, and responding to the needs of our Music Education community at Boise State, in Idaho, and beyond.
• To provide support and professional development to music teachers at all stages of their careers.

Dr. Lori Gray currently serves as Chair of the Department of Music and Professor and Director of Music Education at Boise State. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Music Education and supervises field experience students and student teachers. Lori joined the Boise State Music faculty in the Fall of 2017, after serving as Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Montana. Prior to her experience in higher education, Lori taught in public and private PreK-12 schools in Texas, primarily as a general music specialist.

Dr. Gray holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Arizona State University, a Master of Arts in Teaching in Music Education, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Trinity University.

Dr. Gray’s research interests include music teacher identity, teacher reflection, professional development for teachers, mentoring for teachers, and the preparation of future music teachers. She is an active clinician and has presented research and teaching at state, national, and international events.
