Madsen Presents at American Historical Association Annual Meeting

Leslie Madsen, an associate professor of history and director of the IDEA Shop within the Center for Teaching and Learning, presented on a panel titled “Historians and Academic Freedom” at the annual meeting of the Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association.

The panel addressed the application of academic freedom to social media, criticism of one’s institution, protests on campus, career advancement and learning management systems. Madsen’s contribution explored the intersection of academic freedom with the tenure and promotion process.
