Intersection improvements coming to Lincoln and University avenues

After original plans for construction were delayed over the summer, contractors will finally be adding a Barnes Dance crossing to the intersection of University and Lincoln avenues beginning Oct. 28. Work is expected to be completed by early December.

The Barnes Dance crossing, also known as a diagonal crossing or a dedicated pedestrian interval, will add a signal light cycle and diagonal crosswalks exclusively for pedestrians and bicyclists to cross in all four directions.

The new layout will make it easier to get to and from Lincoln Garage, Sawtooth Hall and the Student Union Building on foot or by bicycle, while still leaving enough capacity for vehicular traffic.

The improvements at this intersection follow the addition of a dedicated pedestrian crossing at W. Beacon Street and S. Manitou Avenue, further increasing access to campus via alternate forms of transportation.
