Introducing Duo Security multi-factor authentication for Boise State VPN

The Office of Information Technology will implement Duo Security multi-factor authentication for Boise State VPN connections on Tuesday, May 19.

Multi-factor authentication adds another layer of security to employee accounts. Duo Security requires individuals to verify their identity using another method (like a personal mobile device) to prevent anyone else from logging into personal accounts, even if they have the password.

People may be familiar with multi-factor authentication from logging into personal applications, such as bank accounts. (For instance, receiving a text message or email link to use as confirmation when logging into an account.) Duo Security is similar, but also includes the option of a push notification to a mobile app employees can install, making the authentication even easier.

Other notification options will include standard SMS messages or phone calls.

The Office of Information Technology will send additional information to faculty and staff about enrolling in and using Duo Security soon.
