Krohn presents paper to American Historical Association

Raymond Krohn, assistant professor of history, presented a paper at a virtual gathering of the American Historical Association, Pacific Coast Branch, titled “Neither Topsies Nor Toms: Fact versus Fiction in Thomas Wentworth Higginson’s Army Life in a Black Regiment.” The paper examines public representations of African Americans by leading antislavery-oriented white writers during the Civil War era, assaying their inability to genuinely comprehend enslaved Africans and their descendants in North America.
