Michael Allen, associate professor of political science, co-authored an article published in the Washington Post examining the environmental damage caused by U.S. military deployments around the globe, as well as the anger such damage causes among local residents.
Research by Allen and his co-authors also finds that this environmental contamination often harms ethnic minorities, as military facilities are often placed in areas that are disproportionately populated by ethnic minorities, the authors said.
