Emily Wakild, professor of history and director of environmental studies, and co-author Germán Vergara of Georgia Tech, have published a forum in the journal Environmental History. This set of essays examines specific animals under threat of extinction around the theme of “Extinction and its Interventions in the Americas”
California bears, Mexican wolves, American Alligators, Cuban Crocodiles, Galápagos tortoises, Passenger Pigeons and Common Loons all offer historical lessons for understanding extinction in the present, the authors said, and they argue that environmental historians should pay more attention to animal extinction then they have historically.
