The American Association for the Advancement of Science Local Science Engagement Network supports STEMM professionals in connecting science with their communities. In order to do so, they are hosting an online learning forum: “Effective Meetings with Policymakers at All Levels” at noon MDT on July 30, 2025 via Zoom. All are welcome.
During this session, Gwendolyn Bogard, Senior Government Relations Officer at AAAS, will highlight stories AAAS Members have shared about effective meetings with policymakers, along with updates and resources from the Office of Government Relations.
Rachel Owen will share best practices to help STEMM professionals lead effective, action-oriented meetings with lawmakers at all levels of government.
The session will also cover how to tailor your message in different contexts, share scientific information in a clear and accessible way for policymakers, and provide strategies on how to follow up to maintain meaningful connections.
According to the American Association for the Advancement of Science , the next few months may be the most important ever for American science, with vital funding decisions that could affect the enterprise for generations to come. As Congress heads to August recess, now is a critically important moment to meet with your elected officials and have district-based conversations.
