Andy Hung, professor in educational technology, published a research study in the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education which analyzed the process of online collaborative problem solving via brain-to-brain synchrony. The study aimed to obtain additional insights over traditional approaches (survey and observation).
Brain-to-brain synchrony refers to the synchronization of brain activity between two or more people as an indicator of interpersonal interaction or common attention. Results of the study indicated the problem understanding stage showed a higher level of brain-to-brain synchrony and that higher levels of synchrony at the problem solving stage were most correlated with task performance.
