[slider id=”alumni-2013″][/slider]On Oct. 16, the Boise State University School of Nursing honored the nursing alumni from the class of 1963 (Golden Anniversary), 1988 (Silver Anniversary), and the 2003, 2008 and 2012 nursing classes. The school’s celebration was in conjunction with the Boise State Alumni Association’s Golden Anniversary festivities during Homecoming week.

The School of Nursing celebration provided a historical review of the school, highlighting recent milestones. Tim Dunnagan, dean of the College of Health Sciences; Ann Hubbert, director of the School of Nursing; Sunny Wallace, director of development and alumni relations for the College of Health Sciences; Vera Fink, Friends of Nursing board member; Nancy Otterness, School of Nursing professor emeritus; and Becky White, School of Nursing student recruiter, welcomed and updated the alumni.

Hubbert spoke of the recent changes in the school, such as the new master’s degree adult gerontology nurse practitioner program and the doctor of nursing practice program as well as the recent Simulation Center accreditation. Hubbert and Vivian Schrader, chair of the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner program, the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and the RN-BS Online/Distance Completion Track, introduced the various program coordinators and the Joanna “Jody” DeMeyer Endowed Chair, Suzan Kardong-Edgren.

The nursing alumni introduced themselves and spoke briefly about what they had been doing since graduation. Dorothy Anne Blackaller Hubbard and Joan Erma Davis Strawn, the Golden Nursing Alumni in attendance, were recognized with a small gift from the school. Two of their classmates were unable to attend but were also recognized for the contribution to nursing.

After lunch, the Golden Nursing Alumni boarded the Alumni Association’s trolley for a tour of campus, which ended at the “blue turf,” where they had an opportunity to see the football team in practice. They then returned to the Norco building for a brief tour and more time to visit. Meanwhile, the other nursing alumni headed to the Norco building for a tour of the school. A highlight of the tour was the opportunity to see the Simulation Center in action.

In the evening, the Golden Anniversary alumni celebrations continued in the Alumni Center, where the members of the class of 1963 gathered to reminisce and share stories. The Homecoming celebrations were a success.
