I am excited to partner with each one of my students in NURS 420: Policy, Power and Voice to learn more about nursing leadership, health policy and our collective voices as nurses. I firmly believe we have an important unique role as nurses and that educating ourselves to that role builds power. Therefore, I am excited to be teaching this content area.

I have been an Advanced Practice Nurse for over ten years and was a Registered Nurse for five years prior to completing my training as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. I have enjoyed a varied career working as a CNM in several urban practices, a WHNP in a reproductive endocrinology and infertility office, and a rural health care provider where I currently reside in Sheridan, WY. I have a strong interest in global healthcare and empowering women in third world countries. I am also the daughter of an English teacher and really enjoy writing which is another reason this course is so much fun.

On a personal note, I have a great husband and three small children (Reed, 8 and Mia & Gabby, 5). Our family enjoys outdoor recreation and travel. I have completed part of my APN training online so I feel I have a good understanding of what it is like to be an online student. Please consider me your personal resource for this course. I look forward to working with each one of you. See you in the course!
