Associate Professor, School of Nursing
Jenny Alderden is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing. A US Navy veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, she served as lead nurse for a shock trauma platoon in Al-Anbar, Iraq, and as a rotary-wing and fixed-wing en route care nurse. She holds critical care and clinical nurse specialist certifications through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, co-edits the Technology for Bedside Nurses column in the journal Critical Care Nurse, and serves as co-chair of the Wound Healing Society’s Government Relations Committee.
Dr. Alderden’s research focuses on pressure injury prevention in critically ill patients, applying machine learning to large clinical datasets to improve risk stratification and clinical decision support. Her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Her awards include the Navy Achievement Medal, the Sigma Theta Tau International Research Dissertation Award, and recognition as a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing. She is a co-author of the international clinical practice guideline for pressure injury prevention and treatment and was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2025.
