The latest round of college rankings from U.S. News and World Report lists the College of Business and Economics’ online Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) at #87 out of 174 programs. The program, now in its third year, jumped from #104 a year ago.

“I am excited but not surprised to see it move in the rankings this year, and I expect it to continue to rise substantially,” said Mark Bannister, dean of the college. “It fits a very important Idaho and national market need.”

Master of Science in Accountancy at a Glance

Boise State’s Online Master of Science in Accountancy will help you take the next step in your career. The program equips students with the depth of knowledge in accounting necessary to take the CPA exam and also to lead in their careers with skills in financial analysis and business development.

A master’s degree in accounting provides a deep dive in accounting principles from experienced faculty using case studies and projects. Students will boost their critical thinking and analytical skills, preparing them for the national demand for leaders in the field.

The Online MSA is offered 100% online and can be completed in as few as 12 months if enrolled full-time and 22 months if enrolled part-time.

Students can now choose between an accelerated master’s degree (Master of Science in Accountancy or MSA), an expanded master’s degree for individuals with non-accounting education backgrounds (Master of Science in Accountancy, Foundations Program or MSA, Foundations for short) and a graduate certificate in Accounting Foundations.  Use this tool to quickly understand which option best meets your needs for studying accountancy at Boise State.

The online Master of Science in Accountancy program accepts applicants to two tracks, depending on the student’s previous accounting coursework.

MSA Admissions Requirements

The accelerated, 30-credit MSA track is designed for students who have completed all accounting and business prerequisite courses.

MSA Foundations Program

More students will be eligible to apply for the Master of Science in Accountancy at Boise State, through the new MSA Foundations Program. The program provides a flexible degree  for prospective accounting graduate students who don’t have an accountancy undergraduate degree. The MSA Foundations Program starts in fall 2020.

Accounting Foundations Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Accounting Foundations allows students to build an accounting emphasis into a non-accounting master’s degree. For example, students may want to add the Graduate Certificate in Accounting Foundations to a Master’s in Business Administration. The graduate certificate provides a flexible emphasis option for graduate students who don’t have an accountancy undergraduate degree and don’t want to only specialize in accounting. The Accounting Foundations Graduate Certificate starts in fall 2020.
