Nursing Care in Different Cultures

This project includes lessons designed to improve student’s intercultural competency, along with other areas. “Hi, my name is Daum Jung. I’m a sophomore nursing student at Boise State University and as part of this pathway to open education resources class, I participated in the project called nursing care in different cultures and the purpose of this project was to connect the language and culture with the healthcare. And in the United States our diverse populations which might indicate there will be cultural values that might hinder the medical treatment or communications. I created this brochure in hopes of connecting the healthcare providers and the patients together. So first and this brochure it describes the Korean population in the United States and it also informs about some of the behaviors that healthcare providers or the hospital faculty should be aware of. And also talks about some of the tips and what they could do in order to provide better care for their patients. It also has some helpful key phrases and terms that will help to you know so they can utilize it when they come across in emergency situations and not only in the hospital setting but it can also be used in a classroom setting. So a teacher can have their students to like get the brochures and identify some of the similarities and dissimilarities in their own culture and in their target culture. After students have identified that they can participate and then roleplay activity where one student will act as a health care provider and where the other student will act as a client and when they’re interacting, they will keep in mind of these considerations and they will also have some chances to practice their medical terms by describing health symptoms and health conditions to the medical provider. This template can be adopted into many different languages and this activity came also using different languages and that will enhance the students cultural understanding in their language, and it also gives them a chance to practice their medical terms so they can use it to express their concerns when they visit hospitals and clinics in the foreign country. I hope this was helpful to you and thank you.”
