How to Apply

First, you must be eligible for the Community Impact Certificate. To qualify for this certificate, you must meet the following:

  • Live in a CIP community and surrounding areas, including Elmore County, Western Treasure Valley, West Central Mountains and Gem County.
  • Attend Boise State University either part-time or full-time

To apply for the Community Impact Certificate (with or without adding it to an existing degree), you must meet with a Community Impact Programs representative to discuss your personal and professional goals, your academic interest areas, your eligibility and apply to Boise State University.

Classes and Scheduling

The Community Impact Certificate includes five courses totaling seven credits. Review student work to better understand what you will do in each course. (Link to PressBook. Student work from all 4 seminar classes (ready end of June))

Cost

The Community Impact Certificate is available to students who are taking classes 100% online and as a combination of online and in person or on the Boise State campus. The cost of the classes are fully covered by the Community Impact Certificate scholarship of $5,500. Review the following table for a breakdown of the cost per course ($395 per credit) and total scholarship award each semester.

Scholarship funding remaining after CIC courses are covered ($2,735.00) will be applied to any additional tuition and fees at Boise State.

  • Those who live in a CIP community and surrounding areas, including Elmore County, Western Treasure Valley, West Central Mountains and Gem County.
  • Those who attend Boise State University either part-time or full-time
  • All types of students from adults new to college, transfer students, returning students, recent high school grads, online students, or campus-based students

What Are The CIC Expectations?

This program is a three-semester commitment that uses a cohort model. It begins in the fall with two semesters of 1-credit seminars. Each seminar semester includes two 7-week hybrid classes with in-person meetings on a Friday and Saturday (twice per semester) in various rural communities. The final semester is dedicated to a project class.

Attendance at the in-person seminar days is expected and required for scholarship eligibility. Participants must be able to commute to both the rural meeting locations and Boise State University. Please be aware that attending the in-person sessions may require time away from work and family. Specific dates for these meetings are listed in the class sequencing and seminar dates section.
