Boise State’s Department of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Logan Frewen as Assistant Teaching Professor of Music Technology/Commercial Music, effective Fall 2025. Frewen brings to Boise State a perfect combination of scholarly achievement, pedagogical experience and professional practice in both live and recorded music contexts.

Distinctive Academic Background
Frewen earned dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Instrumental Music Education and Jazz Studies from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance, where he graduated with a deep understanding of ensemble instruction, improvisation, and curriculum development. He then pursued graduate study at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, completing a Master of Music in Media Scoring and Production. During his master’s program, Frewen served as Head Instructor of Drumline and Percussion for the Frost Band of the Hour, developing course materials and rehearsal strategies for one of the nation’s premier marching ensembles.
Professional Practice and Leadership
Following his graduate work, Frewen was appointed Audio Director at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. In that capacity, he oversaw complex audio systems for an 8,000‑seat broadcast campus and fourteen satellite venues. His responsibilities included live mixing, collaborating with artists and technical teams, and serving as the Front-of-House Engineer and assistant recording engineer on the nationally distributed album Sacred Space.
Commitment to Student Success
Frewen’s appointment underscores the Department of Music’s dedication to equipping graduates for a diverse range of careers in the music industry. His role as an educator and an active freelance music producer — with credits spanning jazz ensembles, film scores, and commercial media campaigns — will allow him to integrate case studies and client-based projects directly into the classroom. Students can look forward to:
- Studio and Production Techniques: courses on digital audio workstations, mixing consoles and synthesis.
- Live‑Sound Methodologies: Applied training in system design, signal flow, and FOH engineering for events.
- Commercial Music Entrepreneurship: Strategies for portfolio building, networking and client relations in a gig‑based economy.
Looking Ahead
With Frewen’s arrival, Boise State Music advances its mission to blend academic rigor with real‑world experience. His interdisciplinary expertise will help launch the department’s reimagined BA program and further support popular courses in live audio, audio post‑production and industry‑focused projects.
Please join us in welcoming Logan Frewen to the Bronco family this fall, as we continue to cultivate the next generation of music technology innovators and music professionals.
