Since our presence on Earth, humankind has swayed relentlessly from our innate adoration for the planet to our unwavering desire for growth and convenience, with the latter inevitably betraying the former. While the well being of mankind is dependent entirely upon the fitness of the planet, our society of production and impermanence makes this relationship incredibly fragile. Our need for immediate solutions has caused irreversible damage to the planet. Deforestation, overuse of plastics and fossil fuels, and greenhouse gas emissions have caused radical changes in climate and flora viability.

As I age and begin to become a more active member of society, the declining condition of our planet becomes increasingly apparent and worrisome to me. We have long fought a battle between modern convenience and maintaining the condition of our planet. Unfortunately, however, this battle is unsustainable and the variety of plant life on Earth is beginning to wither before our eyes. As of now, 50% of the world’s coral reefs have died due to climate change and 17% of the Amazon Rainforest has been lost due to deforestation. I have chosen to utilize my power as an artist to express the importance of this issue. Throughout this series of work, I show the effects of climate change on plant life, on land, and in our oceans.
