Boise State Music Masterclass: Dr. Robert Spring, clarinet

Boise State Music is pleased to welcome Dr. Robert Spring, professor of clarinet at Arizona State University, for a special masterclass event. This masterclass will also feature the students of Dr. Leslie Moreau, Boise State professor of clarinet and music theory.

While largely intended for students, this event is free and open to the public.

Bio:

Robert Spring is described as “one of this country’s most sensitive and talented clarinetists” by the Arizona Republic and a “formidable soloist” by Copenhagen, Denmark, Politiken. His recording of Tower’s works for clarinet, called by Clarinet Magazine as “truly outstanding….one would be hard-pressed to find better performances. “Instrumentalist Magazine says of his “Dragon’s Tongue,” “His musicality and technique make this a must for every CD collection.” America Record Guide says of his Copland Clarinet Concerto, “Spring is fabulous….by the end, it feels like an improvised jam session.”

Dr. Spring has three degrees from the University of Michigan and the Citation of Merit Award from the University of Michigan Alumni Society. He was President of the International Clarinet Association from 1998-2000 and is now a Professor of Clarinet at Arizona State University. He is an Honorary Member of the ICA and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award from the Chinese Clarinet Association.  Spring is a Henri Selmer Paris Artist performing on the Privilège clarinet.
