Friday, November 10, 2023

3:30 – 4:30 pm

Morrison Center Recital Hall (C200) and B213

Friday afternoon, November 10, from 3:30-4:30 pm, the Castalian Quartet will conduct a masterclass featuring string students from Boise State, followed by a short preview performance of their evening program on the Boise Chamber Music Series. The classes will begin in the Recital Hall, C200, and room B213 on the second floor.

Violists Alec Martin and Will Beaulieu will perform and be coached on the Presto movement of Alessandro Rolla’s “Duo No. 1 in B-flat Major” with violist Natalie Loughran and one other of the Castalian Quartet, while the Boise State student string quartet—Dakota Fox and David Korotkih, violins; Curtis Pinkham, viola; and Cera Riveland, cello—will perform and be coached by Daniel Roberts and one other in the Recital Hall C200. Their featured work is Anton Webern’s early, uncharacteristically lush “Langsamer Satz” (1905).

After about 30 minutes, the Castalian Quartet will reunite in C200 and perform excerpts from their new work, “Ungrievable Lives” (2022), by British composer Charlotte Bray.

“A Little Afternoon Music with the Castalian Quartet” is free and open to the public, courtesy of the Boise Chamber Music Series and the Department of Music, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall (C200).
